day 13

Another long day at work. I have a hard time taking as many pictures as I want to take on days that I also have to be at the hospital for 12.5+ hours. Good thing I don't have to work every day! Here's another weird movement shot. This time with the moon backlighting.

day 12

Ack! Another loooong day at work. I like that it's starting to be almost light when I leave for work in the morning. It's so hard to feel functional when I leave in the dark and come home in the dark. A couple more weeks and we'll be setting the clocks forward. I don't look forward to losing the hour (on a weekend I work no less), but I am looking forward to it being dark later. Or, rather, it being later when it gets dark. Here is a post-work shot and a pre-work shot. I am not spectacularly happy with either of the images, but these were the best of the bunch and I had fun playing with exposure time just to see what would happen.

day 11

More playing with light today. Made for some interesting 'light painting' shots. Can you guess what this is? I'll give you a hint. I took this out of a third story window, looking west, at sunset.

day 10

Bonus pic again. These are the only two that turned out of the 20 or so that I shot today. I was playing with different light sources. I took some night shots that were a great experiment and will lead to fun stuff in the future. Of course, as with many initial experiments, they turned out to be mostly crap. I like the one of Sam and the big light though. He had fun checking out what made the light shine. "It's in there! It's in there!" The other shot is a close up of a naalbound hat that I am working on. It's kind of like knitting, but with one needle and it doesn't unravel. Oh, and the Vikings used to do it. Yep, that's pretty old school.

day 9

It rained a bit this morning. Now it's cloudy and cool. Perfect day for pictures of lichens and mosses. It's nap time and Sam is sleeping, so I just went out in the front yard and took some shots. It's amazing how much there is to take photos of in such a tiny space when you are looking for minutiae.

day 8

I have fallen down on the job already! After yesterday's massive snap-a-thon, I took no pictures today. I didn't leave the house. Ok, that's a lie. I took out the trash, but that's it. I just couldn't get warm. It wasn't terribly cold, but it was that wet kind of cold that settles in and stays awhile regardless of how sternly you invite it out with heaters and wool socks. I finally banished it with a blisteringly hot shower. Here are two pictures from last fall, partly because today's cold, gray rain reminds me more of fall than spring and partly because, well, I feel like I need to post something.

day 7

The sun is shining. All of the windows in the house are open, letting out the winter air and letting in the spring. I couldn't decide on today's image. I managed to narrow it down to two, but that was the best I could do. I love the contrast between these two pics. Bee and blossoms next to last year's skeletonized hydrangea petals, fun stuff.

day 6

Here is yesterday's pic. The way afternoon light shows golden through leaves makes even the reviled blackberry beautiful. I would be cropping this photo if I hadn't already decided that I would only post unaltered photos on this blog. So imagine it cropped, if you will. Thanks.

Headed out of town for a few days, will be posting my pics upon my return!

day 5

Last night was cold again. I could feel it creeping in around the edges and I woke up this morning wishing I had turned up the heater before bed. I bundled up over the top of my jammies and ran out to take a couple of frost pictures. Sam very helpfully got down out of his highchair, where he was eating cereal, and closed the door that I had left open so I could hear him if he needed me. I came back inside, "Why did you close the door?" He turned from where he was climbing back into his chair to finish breakfast, "Because I open it when you knock to come in." Apparently he wanted to be able to answer the door and let me in. I went back outside, closing the door behind me. I knocked. I could hear him calling, "Coming, Mommy!" as he climbed back out of his chair. He opened the door grinning, "Hi! Hi!" and then went back to his chair and breakfast. Funny little guy.

day 4

It was hard to choose today's picture. I took a lot of shots of plants and flowers. This one won out simply because it wasn't organic and so many of my pics are. The combination of graphic and graffito really works for me.

day 3

Here's Sam after the Versed was starting to kick in. He was so funny! My child having surgery is not an experience I want to repeat however. He's home, he's fine. All's well that ends well.

day 2

This is a return of the theme from the title picture. I took the first one yesterday after a brief shower of large, splatting raindrops moved through. This one I took mere minutes ago. This morning was thickly foggy and cold. Now the sky is gray and densely overcast. No rain yet today, but the clouds look like thugs lurking in an alley, waiting for their chance to pounce. I love the different textures water can make.

day 1

Sam and I went for a walk before naptime today. We fed dandelion greens to a neighbor's chickens and squelched through the mud in her garden to look at the big orange and white koi in her pond. The clouds rolled back and forth across the sun, creating a cycling pattern of gloom and squinting brightness. Each time the sun peeked out, light bounced off of every drop of moisture, making a kaleidoscope of my vision. I adore spring. Welcome daffodil, welcome crocus, welcome green shoots and flowering trees.
