day 42

Blossoms! Pink and white and beautiful enough to make it worth standing in the cold, nasty wet to get a too-dark picture of them.

day 41

Missed posting this yesterday, but here it is. I love the little tree inside the droplet.

day 40

I skipped another day yesterday. I don't know what's up with that. I am tired and the newness of the photo blog is wearing off, I guess. Today was a work day and was foggy when I was leaving home at first light. There was a beautiful blanket covering everything, especially down by the river. I took two shots of it while I waited for my car to warm up, this is the better of the two. I had to balance the camera on the bumper of my car to take the pictures because I needed to use a slower shutter speed and don't have a tripod. The angle is weird as a result of that, but I like all of the out of focus grass in the foreground. I hope that I will have some time tomorrow to take more shots. Oh, and more motivated. It's funny how time just seems to work out when I'm motivated.

day 38

Blech. No pictures today. It was rainy and windy. I barely had the gumption to get Sam and I to the store to stock up on groceries for the work weekend that looms before us. Hopefully tomorrow will see an improvement in my attitude and energy level. It better, or work is going to be a real drag.

day 37

Tiny caterpillar and a macro lens, what fun. Only issue I am having with these is the narrow depth of field. I want the whole flower in focus, but I cannot make the camera cooperate. Oh well, tomorrow is another day. I love that there are nibbles taken out of the flower that doesn't have a caterpillar on it too. Little guy gets around!

day 36

Back to the lady bug tree to see if they were still hanging out and indeed they were. Hundreds of them!

day 35

It's treasure hunt time! Can you find the tiny spider? I didn't see it until I got home and got the pictures up on my computer monitor.

day 34

Officially one third of the way to 100 days. This has been a great thing for me thus far. Some days it does feel a little bit like a chore, but for the most part I am excited every morning, thinking about what today's images are going to look like. Some days I have a plan of attack. Some days are just, "Ok, let's take a walk and see what happens." I still want to make it over to Schnitzer Steel, the scrap metal recycling yard. I think that piles of old rusty metal, cars waiting for demolition, and other such things will yeild some lusious images. Last time I was there (years ago now) there were all of these boat propellers in a pile. I wish I had taken pictures of them. I don't think they'll still be there, but the image of them in my brain is what makes me want to go back and see what I find.

day 33

I found the lady bug tree. I don't think I am exaggerating much when I say there were a gazillion of them. It being spring, I bet you can guess what they were up to. Is it inappropriate to post pictures of lady bug sex? I say no. If you disagree, then quick! Close your eyes! :)

day 32

Oh spring! Today's pictures almost all had bugs in them. Sam and I had fun watching the bees fly from flower to flower. The middle pic is a great lesson in the things you don't capture when you just point your camera in the general direction you want to shoot and don't actually look at what you're doing.

day 31

Today is beautiful. The sun is shining and the air is cool. There are song birds vying for center stage. I found these catkins on the way to the park for some playground time.

day 29

First blossom on the ancient Italian prune plum tree in my front yard. I like how being slightly out of focus makes this pic look like a watercolor.

day 28

Predawn locomotive, moving fast.

day 27

More fun with light! The weird, blue, ameba-looking thing I actually took yesterday morning. I had forgotten about it until I went to upload today's pictures. So day 26 was not a total wash after all!

day 26

No pictures today. Sad but true. Here's one from yesterday. And now to bed. So tired....

day 25

I've arrived at the quarter mark. 25 days down and 75 to go. It's been fun so far. Harder than I thought it would be to make time in my life to get out the camera every day. Partly because I want the set up to be perfect. Good light, good subjects. It's been a great exercise for me to just fly by the seat of my pants. To just take pictures of what's there as opposed to going to look for something that I want to take pictures of. Today was a good, though long, day at the hospital. I wonder if I will ever get used to 12 hour shifts. I hadn't taken any pictures and there was no light left by the time I left work, so I decided to just point out the moving car window and shoot photo after photo. Yes, I was driving, so no, I wasn't looking at the shots as they were taken. Here are the best of them. Interesting light paintings again. Well, interesting to me at any rate. Put that one that looks like stick figures in the "couldn't replicate it if I tried" category.

day 24

Tomorrow starts my 4 days at work. Expect weirdness or nothing at all. I vote for weirdness, let's see if the stars align to make that happen.

Wednesday, March 10, 2010

day 23

Bamboo. It's another day of front yard photos during naptime. I went outside uninspired. Hadn't I already seen everything that there is to see in the tiny rectangle of grass out front? Nope, guess not. Exciting how different light makes for different views, even of the same old thing.

Tuesday, March 9, 2010

day 22

There are several staircases along the north side of the little butte by my house. Apparently there used to be houses there and they were all moved or torn down 50 or 60 years ago. Now all that's left is the old retaining wall, made of unmortared stone and the stairways to hillside and trees. Because they're on the north side, they never get sunshine. They're covered in moss and ferns. Sad and magical all at the same time. Also hard to take nice photos of because the light is sucktastic. This one's the best of the many I shot.

day 21 bonus pics

day 21

For all of the bad camera mojo I had working yesterday, today was it's polar opposite. I went to Schnitzer Steel, the metal scrap yard, thinking I would be able to get some good shots there, but they were closed. I was bummed and headed home when I passed the Southern Pacific switch yard. I have been wanting to take some train graffiti pictures, but that's not something I can really do with Sam. But since Sam is at Grammy's house.... I love the first three together. I have an image in my head of what someone with a motto like that might look like.

day 20

I took 4 pictures on day 20. They were all out of focus. Then my camera battery died. I took it as a sign and put the camera away.

Saturday, March 6, 2010

day 19

Took a nice walk today down to the farmer's market. Bought greens and shallots and new potatoes. Took lots of pictures, 59 of them in fact, along the way. What a beautiful day. Found an awesome telephone pole covered in years of rotten hand bills and rusty staples. I love words taken out of context. What is 'extra plain special ed'? I want to know.
