day 100

Day 100. Weird. I am so very glad that I did this for myself. I am feeling more creative, inspired, and confident in my art than I ever expected. I love some of the shots that I took. I love that I learned so much about my eye and how to look for light and texture in places and at times that I wouldn't have thought to look before. I love that I completed something by and for myself. I love that I have a record of what I have seen the last three months.

I finally made it to Schnitzer Steel. A very nice young man who got blushy and tongue tied while talking to me (it was very flattering) came and told me that I wasn't allowed to take photos there. Dang. I got in a couple before he found me though. The majority of the photos from today are from a heavy equipment yard where there are lots of old machine parts gradually turning into lumps of rust. I took all of the shots through the chain link fence. The light wasn't great and I really had to work with the camera to make it see what I wanted it to see. I think that I will have to go back and talk to someone about getting into their yard to take more photos without the fence dictating the distance from what I am shooting,

Please comment. Please check out old photos. Let me know what you think! Big thanks to those of you who have followed this project. It was really fun to get to share it with you.

day 98

Shots taken in the last light of a murky day. These images brought to you by the magic of flash fill. The rain today knocked down the roses. Heads hanging like a walk of shame, they're dumping petals all over the sidewalk. I have never been really 'into' roses, but there's something gorgeous about these big, pink, overblown cabbages masquerading as roses by my front door. Especially in the rain.

day 97

Another day with no photos. Stayed home with a little boy with a bad cold.

day 96

Rhodies at dusk, leaving work on a Sunday.

day 95

Bird in a tree from the third floor of the hospital. This is my leaving work view.

day 94

No pics today. You'd think, this close to the end, that I could pull it together and make pictures happen regardless of circumstance.

day 93

An enormous white moth and Sam determined to stomp in puddles despite having a cold. Thank goodness for rain boots.

day 92

The rain necessitated that our AM walk be quick. We took a short cut down a neighbor's walkway that leads from the street through to the alley. Halfway down the walkway we found gorgeous, brilliant orange Chinese poppies. Did I say that tulips and irises were my favorite flowers? I did? Well, I must have been forgetting about Chinese poppies, cuz, oh man, they're something else. Sam's pretty cute in that rain coat, too.

days 89, 90, and 91 (4th and final part)

Ferns, trophy hood ornament, rusted enamel bowl, and an up-from-underneath view of wet tulips and the pale, early-morning sky.

days 89, 90, and 91 (part 3)

More hummers... I really couldn't get enough.

days 89, 90, and 91 (part 2)

Friends of the family. If I were going to make a movie that needed sound effects for fairies, I would use hummingbird noises.

days 89, 90, and 91 (part1)

I am going to lump these three days together and do multiple posts to cover the range of photos I took. Went on a whirlwind tour of family destinations. Took lots of pictures... These are of the start of the journey. Sunset and puffy white clouds while driving up to Mom's to drop off Sam (day 89). Prop on the plane that flew me northeast from Portland. Arrowleaf balsamroot showing off it's spring colors, both in leaf and flower.

day 89

Headed out of town. Will post on my return.

day 87

Today may be a good day to call me Georgia. I am in a strange place in my mind right now. I feel zipped tight in my skin, like I am waiting for something big to happen, to burst out. I am oddly dissatisfied with everything. What's up with that?
